Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were two freedom fighters who shared the same goal, which was freedom, justice and equality, but differed in their methods. Martin Luther King, Jr. meeting Malcolm X in the U.S. Capitol, 1964., 2017 Radical reform made sense to King while rejection and revolutionary rage made more sense to to Malcolm X (Waldschmidt-Nelson and Waldschmidt-Nelson, 2012). Dr. King was a Baptist minister who believed in the equality of all people before God, he believed that racial segregation was destructive to the souls of both white and black people. Dr. King believed that discrimination against African-Americans violated the basic principles of America ,such as equality under the law and†¦show more content†¦To start with their similarities, both were born to activists ministers; Malcolm X is known for his association with the Nation of Islam. Meanwhile his father, Earl Little, was working in the United Negro Improvement Association. To continue, Little was also a supporter of Marcus Garvey ,a black nationalist (Nittle, 2017). Because of his involvement and activism, he was tortured by white supremacists who were suspects in his death. Martin Luther King Sr., King’s father, als o a Baptist minister as well as an activist. He served as head of the famous Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, he was the leader of the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP and the Civic and Political League(Blake, 2010). Unlike Earl Little, King Sr. lived until he was 84.Uniquely, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. married educated women, despite the fact that it was uncommon for African Americans to attend college. Malcolm’s future wife, Betty Shabazz managed to attend Brooklyn State College School of Nursing and Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Likewise, Coretta King had academic success, following graduating high school at the top of her class, she continued a higher education at Antioch College in Ohio. Though both women appeared as homemakers, after their husbands death they became movement widows, getting into civil rights activism (Nittle, 2017).
